The successful reading buddies program between our high school English Language Development (ELD) students and Simmons Elementary is back for its second year! This inspiring initiative pairs high school students with elementary classes, creating meaningful connections through the joy of reading.
After last year's tremendous success, the program is growing even stronger. Thanks to grant funding, the high school students now have an extensive collection of books, allowing each student to share different stories during their classroom visits.
The next reading session is already scheduled for November, with both the high school mentors and their elementary reading buddies eagerly anticipating the upcoming visit. The program has proven to be a wonderful opportunity for high school students to develop leadership skills while fostering a love of reading in younger students.
Looking ahead, plans are underway to expand this successful program to additional elementary schools throughout the district!
